S28 - UVB-76/The Buzzer

UVB-76 is a station operated by the Russian military that broadcasts a buzz at a rate of 25 tones per minute. In rare instances, the buzz is interrupted by a Russian voice. It's speculated that the station started in 1973, with it still being active to this day. Its purpose is unclear, as the Russian government has not come out and said anything about it. One theory suggests that UVB-76 acts as a channel marker and is used in case of emergencies. It should be noted that sometimes background noise and chatter could be heard, which suggests that the buzz is not generated internally, but from a device that emits the sound. UVB-76 has utilized different broadcasting locations, some being found by urban explorers. Its current location is in an abandoned building in Naro Flominsk, Moscow. The explorers claim that its operation area is an abandoned military base.

UVB-76 still transmits to this day.
